Good News!

Bryce Mander, PhD (Psychiatry & Human Behavior), received an NIH R01 titled, “Longitudinal relationships between Alzheimer's disease pathophysiology, local sleep expression, and sleep-dependent memory across preclinical stages.” Cross-sectional evidence links Alzheimer's disease (AD) biomarkers — including brain inflammation, AD pathology, and structural integrity — to local deficits in sleep brain waves associated with memory, yet no longitudinal data exist on how these sleep changes track with AD biomarker progression prior to symptom onset. This study will characterize the longitudinal evolution of local sleep deficits across preclinical AD stages and their associations with inflammatory, pathological, and neurodegenerative AD features, while examining how biomarker-defined preclinical AD stages (Aβ⁻, Aβ⁺/tau⁻, Aβ⁺/tau⁺) influence sleep-related memory decline over time.

Do you or someone on your team have research-related good news to report (e.g., research funding/award, publication, other accolade)? We would like to know! Please fill out this short Good News submission form.
