Ed. 253 | April 1
Dean's Note

Owen Community,

The university continues to highlight Owen’s thought leadership at events nationwide. Last month we hosted an event in Dallas for alumni, and Professor Ranga Ramanujam shared his thought-provoking research on errors and failures in high-risk work settings. The attendees also learned of his quest to advance collaborations across campus through innovative teaching and learning strategies. His presentation showcased the impactful work of our faculty and illustrated the importance of investing in research that directly influences society.

The research and innovation happening at Owen directly influence the experience of our students, helping them to become informed and well-rounded leaders.

Best wishes,
Tom

This event, designed for both allies and LGBTQ+ individuals, promises an insightful discussion where Rob will delve into the founding journey of The Phluid Project and the delicate balance between purpose and business. As a brand championing community, activism, and education through gender-free fashion, The Phluid Project embodies inclusivity and self-expression for all. Catered lunch to be provided.

4/8: Vogue Workshop
Out & Allied and the Owen Black Students Association welcome esteemed Nashville legend Milan Jackson to lead the group in a Vogue Workshop on Monday, April 8, from 6:15–8:15PM at the Vanderbilt Rec, Studio D.

Vogue, originating in the late 1980s from Harlem's ballroom scene, is a highly stylized house dance influenced by African American and Latino LGBTQ cultures. Inspired by fashion magazine poses, it gained fame through Madonna's "Vogue" (1990) and the documentary "Paris Is Burning" (1990). Today, it's a global phenomenon, evolving in style and demographics.

Since there will be floor work involved, we would like to ask that attendees bring knee pads, if they have them, to ensure a comfortable experience. RSVP via AnchorLink to secure your spot, as space is limited.
