| Detection of Missed Colorectal Cancer Remains Low for Most Diverticulitis Patients |
|
Published in the Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology journal, a study led by Anne Peery, MD, and Walker Redd, MD, in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, shows that the prevalence of colorectal cancer is low in most patients with diverticulitis. However, patients with complicated diverticulitis are the exception.

| Franklin Receives 2024 Boka W. Hadzija Award for Distinguished University Service |

The Graduate School named Janay Franklin a 2024 recipient of the Boka W. Hadzija Award for Distinguished University Service, one of the Chancellor’s Awards at UNC-Chapel Hill. Franklin, a PhD candidate studying neuroscience in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program, was commended for focusing on service to others in addition to her academic excellence.

A UNC Air Operations plane crashed at RDU International on the Wednesday morning, injuring UNC Health physician Paul Chelminski, MD, and UNC Air pilot Art Johnson. As of late Wednesday afternoon, Paul was treated and released from UNC Hospitals while Art was listed in fair condition at Duke University Hospital.
