Lukasz Mazur, PhD, professor in radiation oncology and director of the division of healthcare engineering, along with co-principal investigator Larry Marks, MD, assistant dean for organizational health and quality, were awarded a $1.3-million grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to develop and assess the effectiveness of innovative artificial intelligence/machine learning algorithms focused on radiation therapist providers’ variability in key treatment planning steps.

The incident took place while Abhi Mehrotra, MD, MBA, professor in the department of emergency medicine, was walking his dog in his neighborhood just prior to leaving for his ER shift at UNC. Later in the day, Mehrotra also cared for a firefighter who was injured in extinguishing the same fire.
