Researchers at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center have developed a molecule, called uniSTING, that is much more effective than a previously identified molecule, called STING, at activating a biological pathway and spurring a strong anti-cancer immune response in preclinical studies. The findings appeared in Nature Nanotechnology. | |
| | New Treatment Trial Seeks to Enroll Covid+ Individuals, Including Eligible UNC Staff and Students |

The UNC Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases is now enrolling participants in a fast-track trial of an oral COVID-19 treatment known as Bemnifosbuvir. Currently, Paxlovid is used for treating COVID-19. However, it is known to interact with common drugs that treat cholesterol, blood clots and other conditions. Because of these side effects, and the limitations of other antiviral treatments, new options are needed.

To bring a taste of Chapel Hill and a glimpse of health science professions to North Carolina high school students, the Division of Clinical Laboratory Science hosted its inaugural “Lab Life on the Hill” live stream event, which brought 355 students from 16 high school classrooms together for a webinar introducing students to laboratory science as a pathway to a career in healthcare.

School of Medicine IT will end Webex video conferencing service on Friday, May 17. After this date, SOM Webex account owners will not have access to the service. This change does not affect users of UNC Health Webex, and SOM users will still be able to join Webex meetings created by others. Zoom and Microsoft Teams will still be supported for SOM video conferencing needs. | |
