Documentary Featuring LEADoula Program Wins Emmy Award
The LEADoula program was an integral part of the WRAL documentary Critical Term: Why are Black Mothers and Babies Dying?, which recently won a regional Emmy Award. The documentary features LEADoula founders Venus Standard, MSN, from UNC Family Medicine, which hosts the program, Jacquelyn McMillian Bohler, PhD, from the Duke University School of Nursing, and Stephanie Devane-Johnson, PhD, MSN, from the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.

A Newborn Genetic Screening Study Reaches New Milestone
Led by RTI, Early Check has screened 1,000 newborns after birth in an effort to help identify rare conditions early, provide treatment, give parents educational information, and connect families with specialists throughout North Carolina. Cynthia Powell, MD, professor of genetics and member of the UNC Children’s Research Institute, is the UNC principal investigator.

Drug in OUtMATCH Clinical Trial FDA-Approved for the Reduction of Allergic Reactions from Accidental Food Exposures
Stage one results from the OUtMATCH clinical trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, show that a monoclonal antibody, omalizumab, increased the amount of peanut, tree nuts, egg, milk and wheat that multi-food allergic children as young as age one could consume without an allergic reaction. Edwin Kim, MD, Corinne Keet, MD, PhD, and Mike Kulis, PhD, are contributing authors.

Game Day Parking Reminder
The Tar Heels will take on NC State at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, in Chapel Hill. University employees who park in S11 zones and who are scheduled to work on Saturday should submit a basketball request form to register for game day parking in Craige Deck and present their UNC One Card to exit the deck free of charge. Additionally, the Tar Heels will take on Notre Dame at 7p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, in Chapel Hill.

Support UNC Children's Over Lunch in March
Local Jersey Mike’s restaurants have again selected UNC Children’s to receive donations during the company’s month of giving. Throughout March, customers can opt to add a donation to their lunch order that will support the Fitch Family Comprehensive Pediatric Rehabilitation Program at UNC Children’s.

On Wednesday, March 27, 100% of sales from participating local locations will go to the program. In 2023, more than $400,000 was raised for UNC Children’s, and the company hopes to top that amount this year. Contact your local restaurant to confirm participation.
