Video: UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health Ribbon Cutting
UNC Health celebrated the opening of UNC Hospitals Youth Behavioral Health, a 54-bed facility in Butner, N.C., that will provide acute hospital care for children and teens in psychiatric crisis. The facility expects to begin treating patients by the end of November.

Peden Named Clinical Research Alliance Chief Research Officer
David Peden, MD, MS, will begin his work in the role immediately. As CRO for the organization, he will identify and develop therapeutic areas of emphasis, recruit therapeutic area leaders and protocol investigators, coordinate multisite clinical trial submissions, and establish collaborations for multisite trials across various SOM, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC Health and industry partners.

UNC Awarded NSF Award to Incorporate Career Exploration, Professional Development into PhD Training

Family Medicine, Piedmont Health Collaborate to Overcome Language and Disability Barriers
A UNC Family Medicine collaboration with Piedmont Health Services and partners has resulted in a $3-million HRSA grant to improve training in overcoming language and disability barriers. The 5-year project, “Primary Care Training and Enhancement - Language and Disability Access to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,” is focused on building and developing curriculum and program experiences to enhance the training for medical students and residents.

UNC Health Joins Promising Multicenter Clinical Trial for Glioblastoma
UNC Health is now enrolling patients as part of a multicenter clinical trial for patients who have been newly diagnosed with glioblastoma (GBM). The phase 2b clinical study administers IGV-001, a combination immunotherapy developed by biotech company Imvax.

UNC Center for Excellence in Community Mental Health Dedicates New Tiny Home Community
Led by UNC Psychiatry and UNC Social Work faculty and staff, the tiny home community in Chatham County will open next spring at The Farm at Penny Lane, which provides a variety of mental health services. Soon it will provide independent living in a nourishing community. Thava Mahavedan, MS, spearheads the project.
