Dear Partners,

Tahiti Tourisme North America would like to extend our sincere condolences to those affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. We would also like to share the latest information we have received regarding our islands and neighbors in the South Pacific. There has been no reported damage, injuries or deaths in French Polynesia.

More than 100 people have been reported dead in the Samoan Islands and relief assistance is being dispatched from the US and Australia, in addition to local regional support.

The Red Cross urges those who have been able to contact loved ones on American Samoa to register them with Safe and Well, the best way to share information about their status. You can register on the Red Cross Safe and Well Website at www.redcross.org . If you do not have internet access, call 1-800-REDCROSS to register your loved ones.

The information posted will let other loved ones know about the well-being of those on the island. Please note - Safe and Well works only on American Samoa. The service will not work on Samoa. For additional information from the Red Cross http://tinyurl.com/yexwc6v

Per CNN, the 8.0-magnitude quake hit the small cluster of Samoan islands in the South Pacific early before 8 a.m. Tuesday September 29 and a tsunami stuck about 20 minutes later. Pago Pago, the territorial capital at the apex of a U-shaped harbor, took the brunt of the tsunami.

The town houses about 11,000 of the territory's 66,000 people. About 220,000 people live on the two main islands which make up the nation of Samoa.

Again, our thoughts are with those affected and we will share additional updates regarding relief efforts as we receive news.

Sincerely,

Tahiti Tourisme North America
