"Under My Skin" by Julia Beeson
San Diego Magazine reaches more than 410,000 of the most affluent and influential members of the San Diego community each month. The January issue of the magazine features Julia Beeson’s article on her island-hopping adventure on Tikehau and Moorea.
She begins her journey in Tikehau after a “heavy tropical night [in Tahiti], infused with the sweet scent of the ubiquitous tiare flower.” Her first impression of Tikehau was the “thin strand of pink sand rising just a few feet which encircles a large lagoon shimmering in a kaleidoscope of blue.” She continues on to the Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort and finally understands why “Jacques Cousteau said Tikehau’s lagoon life was the richest in the South Pacific.”
The second part of her journey is in Moorea, at the Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa. She speaks of the cultural events and diverse yet unique culinary options on the islands. Of course, she describes the amazing features of the island, especially Oponohu Bay, Cook’s Bay, and the breathtaking view from the Belvedere Lookout. |

"Motu Vineyard" by Celeste Brash
Celeste Brash’s Islands article puts Tahiti on the map as the only destination with “French culture in the form of wine production that meets some of the world’s best diving and tropical landscapes.”
Brash, a native Californian from Napa Valley, tours the Motu Vineyard on Rangiroa, with a skeptical mindset that no good wine “can be produced at latitude 15.” She begins her trip with what most tourists allocates time for in Rangiroa, a dive in the “immense lagoon, which teems with rays, sharks, and hundreds of species of fish.” After a quick dive, she concentrates on the purpose of her trip, to understand how the motu of Avatoru in the South Pacific can become a wine region. Her mindset quickly shifted after a tour and thorough explanation of how Tahiti combined nature and modern technology to produce “their own vintage – something that taste distinctly of the islands.” | |

She describes the “surreal colors of sparkling waters” and “dares to imagine that the rich vegetation are true and not a screen saver’s deceptive pixels.”
She illustrates the extravagance and luxury of the St. Regis, combined with utmost service, relaxing spa treatments, and the beauty of the motu that the St. Regis is situated on. She continues on with the Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa, and its beautifully appointed bungalows and breathtaking views. Magical is fittingly a recurring word used throughout the article.
