The numbers for April are in, and we are very pleased with the results for the North American market. In April, Tahiti welcomed 7,143 visitors from North America, a 35.28% increase over April 2005 and the greatest April total since 2001! April continued the positive growth that began in February, giving North America a 14.83% increase in visitors for the year to date. North America’s total of 25,003 visitors (21,595 from the U.S.) through the end of April accounts for 39.56% of all visitors to Tahiti (up from 35.01% last year), and is higher than the same period in 2005, 2004, and 2002.

The growth in the North American market was spurred by our recent public relations, promotional, and advertising efforts. On the advertising front, our Awareness Campaign, launched in April of last year, worked hand-in-hand with this year’s First Quarter Initiative to create interest in the destination and then drive bookings to our opt-in Tour Operator Partners.

We hope to see continued growth in the upcoming high season months. A tactical First Quarter Initiative has proven to be an effective complement to an Awareness Campaign, a strategy that we plan to utilize in future advertising efforts.
