Changes to the TWIA Board of Directors, By General Manager John Polak, CPCU
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) Commissioner David Mattax appointed a new TWIA Board of Directors on October 1, 2015, reflecting the changes required by Senate Bill 900 (the “Windstorm Reform Bill”).

Before October 1, 2015, the law required the Board to consist of four industry representatives, four public first-tier coastal representatives, one public non-coastal representative and one non-voting licensed engineer.

Residential and Commercial Rate Changes for 2016
The Texas Insurance Code requires TWIA rates to be reasonable, adequate, and not unfairly discriminatory. Rates are set by the TWIA Board of Directors and subject to review by the Texas Department of Insurance. In accordance with the Board's decision at its August 4, 2015 meeting, rates for all TWIA residential and commercial policies will increase by 5%, effective January 1, 2016.
